What is children’s dentistry?
Children’s dentistry focuses on the oral health of babies, children and teenagers. There is a strong focus on prevention, building trust and helping children become familiar with the dentist step by step.
When should a child visit the dentist?
It is a good idea to bring children to the dentist from a young age. This helps them become familiar with the dental practice and allows us to monitor the development of their teeth. Regular dental check-ups also help us identify problems at an early stage.
What symptoms may indicate that my child should see a dentist?
Please contact us if your child has toothache, sensitivity, a broken tooth, swelling, difficulty eating or has had an accident involving the teeth. However, it is best not to wait for symptoms. Preventive dental check-ups are important to help prevent problems before they start.
What happens during a dental appointment for a child?
We adapt the visit to your child’s age and level of confidence. We check the teeth, discuss oral hygiene and explain what we are doing in a clear and child-friendly way. If treatment is needed, we build this up gradually whenever possible.

We do our best to make every treatment as comfortable as possible and explain in advance what will happen. If local anaesthetic is needed, we discuss this with both parent and child and guide your child through the treatment step by step.
How long does a dental appointment for a child take?
This depends on your child’s age, the treatment required and how easily your child becomes comfortable with the situation. In some cases, a shorter appointment may be more suitable than carrying out a lot of treatment at once.
What can you expect after treatment?
After a routine dental check-up, your child will usually have no discomfort. After treatment, a tooth or the gums may feel slightly sensitive for a short time. If necessary, we will provide instructions for care at home.

The cost depends on the dental care provided. In the Netherlands, much of the regular dental care for children under the age of 18 is covered by basic health insurance.

Most routine dental care for children under the age of 18 is covered by Dutch basic health insurance and is generally not subject to the mandatory excess. There are some exceptions, including certain orthodontic, cosmetic and specific restorative treatments. If you are unsure, always check your own insurance policy.

Please contact us as soon as possible if your child has severe toothache, swelling, an accident that has damaged the teeth, or if a permanent tooth has been partially or completely knocked out.
