What symptoms may indicate that treatment is needed?

Possible symptoms include recurring pain, swelling, inflammation or problems around a damaged tooth. However, not every condition that requires minor oral surgery causes noticeable symptoms.

What happens during the treatment?

We first examine the area and explain what needs to be done. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic where necessary. If the treatment is more complex or specialist care is recommended, we will discuss an appropriate referral with you.

Does a minor oral surgical procedure hurt?

With local anaesthetic, you should not feel sharp pain during the procedure. You may still notice some pressure or movement. Once the anaesthetic wears off, the treated area may feel sore or painful for a while.

How long does the treatment take?

The duration depends on the type and complexity of the procedure. Some minor oral surgical procedures are relatively quick, while more complex treatment may take longer.

What can you expect after the treatment?

Some pain, swelling and a small amount of bleeding can occur after the procedure. You will receive clear instructions about eating, drinking, oral hygiene and what you can do to support your recovery.

How much does a minor oral surgical procedure cost?

The cost depends on the procedure required and any additional examination or treatment that may be needed. Dental fees in the Netherlands are subject to the nationally regulated rates set by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa).

Is oral surgery covered by health insurance?

Reimbursement depends on the type of procedure and where it is carried out. Certain forms of oral surgery may be covered by Dutch basic health insurance under specific conditions, while routine dental treatment for adults generally is not. We therefore recommend checking your insurance policy or contacting your health insurer in advance.

When should you contact the dentist after the procedure?

Please contact us if bleeding does not decrease, if swelling or pain becomes significantly worse, if you develop a fever, or if you have difficulty swallowing. If you are concerned about your recovery for any other reason, please contact us as well. In case of breathing difficulties or another acute medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.
